Internet of Things is coming to your Kitchen
The Bigwigs of internet technology are betting there dollars on Internet of things or “IOT”. Cisco chief John Chambers estimates a market opportunity of 19 Trillion USD in the next decade. In case, you are still wondering what this is about…imagine this…you are leaving from home in next 20 minutes, and you have a busy schedule ahead all day. You have a friend coming over in the evening. You load your smart Crockpot with stew and put it on. While you are traveling, you can control the settings of your Crockpot at home. Later, in the evening, your friend postpones meeting up for an hour..you head to the beauty parlor for a long time due pedicure.You, remotely, set the Crockpot for “keep warm” for another hour. You reach home after picking up your friend, and she wonders “what about dinner,” and you surprise her with hot simmering stew and dinner rolls with wine….and yes you enjoy it over watching TV “AHS: Coven” recorded earlier.We all enjoy the benefits of internet in our daily lives be it messaging text, sharing images, or uploading videos on YouTube, but things are not limited to your desktop, laptop,iPad, or smart phone any more, technological advancements are touching the sky. It is really amazing as to how emerging concept of internet of things will change our kitchens and cooking forever.
The Internet of Things (IoT) also called the Cloud of Things (CoT) is a computing scenario which describes our future where everyday physical objects be your home appliances or kitchen appliances or even automobiles will be connected to the Internet and be able to identify themselves to other devices. IoT is, basically, connecting any device or appliance with an on and off switch to the internet. Researchers predict that by 2020, there will be 26 billion or even more connected devices.

Though in the nascent stage, the concept of IoT is not new to the kitchens with major kitchen appliance manufacturers like LG, Whirlpool, and GE showcasing their visions of smart kitchen.
LG’s Home Chat feature directs its appliances through SMS, asking your refrigerator, for example, to go in power save mode or your oven to start preheating.

Earlier Belkin products were used to monitor cost and usage of home appliances from a smartphone app. As the two major giants partnered together, the concept of WeMo-enabled kitchen appliances came into light, and the idea of smartkitchen became a reality.
