You have the freedom of serving this dessert either hot or chilled. By that, you can enjoy this treat in 2 different ways. The dish is easy, but it takes a little time to get the barley and red beans boiled enough till soft.

The ingredients you need to prepare this recipe are:

1/4 cup of barley (soaked in water overnight), 1 cup of red beans (soaked in water overnight), 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 skrewpine leaf (tied like a knot), 2 cups of normal water, and 4 cups of milk.

Boil beans, barley, and skrewpine leaf in 2 cups of water. Simmer the preparation till the beans and barley are soft, approximately for 2 hours. You can alternatively use a pressure cooker if you want to quicken up the cooking process. Once, the cereal and the beans are cooked well, add 2 cups of milk and 1/2 cup of sugar and stir till the sugar dissolves completely. If you don’t find skrewpine leaf, replace it with dried orange peel. If you have lactose intolerance, replace milk with water, and enjoy this super simple, healthy yet delicious recipe this festive season.
